Hawaii Cattlemen Feel Coronavirus Economic Impact

As Coronavirus continues to shock the country, some Hawaii ranchers have begun to feel the full effect. In a conversation with Kulana Foods representative, Tom Asano, we discussed just how deep the impact has been. Kulana Foods is one of the leading purveyors of Hawaii Grass-Fed Beef and has a direct relationship with the Hawaii Island Ranchers.

While some are concerned about mainland processing plant shutdowns, Kulana Foods runs the entire operation on the Big Island. With a small team of no more than thirty, Kulana Foods provides locally raised and processed Hawaii Grass-Fed beef to local establishments all over the island. Whether it's large companies like KTA or small businesses like Surf Burger in Kawaihae, many are dependent on the beef that is processed, packaged, and delivered by Kulana Foods.

After the major resort closures on the Big Island, Tom had to cut down his deliveries to once  a week. This decrease in demand has a direct impact on local ranchers that raise the beef we know and love.

Many businesses like Surf Burger and Kohala Burger & Taco are committed to Hawaii Island’s farmers and ranchers. Their goal is to deliver the highest quality and locally produced foods to the community. Without the support for properly raised and processed beef, many in the industry would be forced to look elsewhere. Keeping the beef on island is an opportunity to directly support our Hawaii Island Ohana.

Supporting our local community has never been more important and you have an opportunity to do so everyday. By choosing to eat at a local restaurant like Surf Burger, you can do your part in supporting ranchers, beef processing facilities, and the restaurant industry.
